From the Rural ITS Toolbox report: Subsection 3.4: Dispatching Systems
Wisconsin, United States
Dane County, Wisconsin has implemented an interagency dispatch and reporting coordination system to improve response to incidents and emergencies. Police vehicles are equipped with on-board computers capable of transmitting incident data to a central dispatching center. Once data is received, police make initial observations and send critical information to other emergency responders (e.g., nearby hospitals and fire stations) via an existing fiber optic communications network enabling emergency responders to prepare before arriving on-site. The cost to equip each police vehicle with laptop computers ranged from $8,000 to $10,000.
