Lessons Learned

The program is designed to have three phases: (1) Concept Development, (2) Design/Deploy/Test, and (3) Maintain/Operate. Within each phase, each site is required to submit a sequence of documents, leading to a progress gate at the end of the phase. Delivered draft documents are reviewed by the USDOT team and revised until they are accepted. Phase 1 of the program has been completed, and all final documents submitted by the three sites, as well as guidance documents from USDOT with advice and a template for structuring the document, are available on the National Transportation Library (NTL).

Each of the documents have seen a high number of visits, with the three sites’ Concept of Operations documents together receiving nearly 5,000 views. The popularity of these documents indicates that this set of materials is of high value and is important to the CV community for use as guidance for their own deployments. Other early deployers are strongly encouraged to post their documentation to assist fellow deployers of connected vehicle technologies with their planning activities.
