Several public service and safety agencies in Austin and Travis Counties (Texas) are forming a partnership to implement a shared regional transportation, emergency, and communications center. The multi-agency partnership includes the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) Austin District, Travis County, City of Austin, and Capital Metropolitan Transportation Authority. The new facility, the Combined Transportation, Emergency & Communications Center (CTECC), is being built so that combined operations can be provided in a single shared facility.
The TxDOT Austin District proposes to occupy the facility with advanced traffic management systems and courtesy patrol personnel. Travis County proposes to occupy the facility with emergency operations staff from the sheriff, constable, rural fire, and EMS dispatch operations. The City of Austin proposes to occupy the facility with emergency operations staff including 9-1-1, 3-1-1, police, fire, and EMS dispatch. Capital Metropolitan Transportation Authority proposes to occupy the facility with transient operations staff as needed.
Systems from these agencies will be integrated to provide enhanced public safety and service. Integrated technologies include 9-1-1 call handling, computer aided dispatch (CAD), radio trunking and wireless communications, mobile data terminal technologies, geographic information systems, and advanced traffic management systems.
The facility, approximately 74,000 square feet, was estimated to cost $21.94 million. Preliminary cost of major equipment components are provided in the below table.
