Summary Information
As part of the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) Smart Mobility Plan, CDOT started construction on a fiber optic backhaul in Colorado Springs to improve real-time access to traffic-monitoring cameras, traffic detectors, variable message signs, road weather information system stations, and traffic signal controllers to improve emergency response actions, traveler information, and corridor traffic flow.
Initiated in January 2019, the project is anticipated to include 17 miles of fiber optic cable along US-24 between Woodland Park and I-25/Cimarron Street at a cost of approximately $2.5 million. Project duration was estimated at nine months.
